How to Light Yom Kippur Candles on Shabbat Eve

STEP 1: Light a match
STEP 2: Light the candles
STEP 3: Take your arms and wave them from the candles to yourself seven times
STEP 4: Cover your eyes with your hands
STEP 5: While covering your eyes, recite the following blessings:

Hebrew and Transliteration:

Candles-Yom-Kippur 9-4-15 Shabbat

Translation:

Blessed are you, Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who has sanctified us with The One’s commandments, and commanded us to light the light of Shabbat and the Day of Atonement.

Hebrew and Transliteration:

Shehecheyanu Yom Kippur

Translation:

Blessed are you, Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who has kept us alive, sustained us, and brought us to this time.

STEP 6: Uncover your eyes

STEP 7: Close your eyes

STEP 8: Offer a personal prayer for family, friends, your community, Israel, the entire Jewish people and all of humanity.
