How to Light Candles on Yom Kippur:

STEP 1: Light a match
STEP 2: Light the candles
STEP 3: Take your arms and wave them from the candles to yourself seven times
STEP 4: Cover your eyes with your hands
STEP 5: While covering your eyes, recite the following blessings:

Hebrew:

lehadlik-ner-shel-yom-hakippurim

Transliteration:

Baruch a-ta A-do-nay Elo-hei-nu me-lech ha-o-lam a-sher ki-dee-sha-nu bi-mitz-vo-tav vi-tzi-va-noo li-had-leek ner shel Yom Ha-Kippur-im.

Translation:

Blessed are you, Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who has sanctified us with The One’s commandments, and commanded us to light the light of the Day of Atonement.

Hebrew:

shechiyanu_3

Transliteration:

Baruch a-ta A-do-nay Elo-hei-nu me-lech ha-o-lam she-heh-chee-yanu veh-kee-eemanu veh-hig-ianu laz man hazeh.

Translation:

Blessed are you, Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who has kept us alive, sustained us, and brought us to this time.

STEP 6: Uncover your eyes

STEP 7: Close your eyes

STEP 8: Offer a personal prayer for family, friends, your community, Israel, the entire Jewish people and all of humanity.
