How to Light Candles for: Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret, Simchat Torah, Passover and Shavuot:

STEP 1: Light a match
STEP 2: Light the candles
STEP 3: Take your arms and wave them from the candles to yourself seven times
STEP 4: Cover your eyes with your hands
STEP 5: While covering your eyes, recite the following blessings:

Hebrew:

Transliteration:

Baruch a-ta A-do-nay Elo-hei-nu me-lech ha-o-lam a-sher ki-dee-sha-nu bi-mitz-vo-tav vi-tzi-va-noo li-had-leek ner shel Yom Tov.

Translation:

Blessed are you, Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who has sanctified us with The One’s commandments, and commanded us to light the light of the holiday.

Note: Do not say the following blessing on the last two nights of Passover.

Hebrew:

shechiyanu_3

Transliteration:

Baruch a-ta A-do-nay Elo-hei-nu me-lech ha-o-lam she-heh-chee-yanu veh-kee-eemanu veh-hig-ianu laz man hazeh.

Translation:

Blessed are you, Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who has kept us alive, sustained us, and brought us to this time.

STEP 6: Uncover your eyes

STEP 7: Close your eyes

STEP 8: Offer a personal prayer for family, friends, your community, Israel, the entire Jewish people and all of humanity.
